To combat high rates of infant and maternal mortality, particularly among women and babies of color, South Jersey organizations have come together to empower all Cape May County mothers regardless of race, ethnicity, religious belief, creed, finances or ability.
Though the overall infant mortality rate in New Jersey is lower than the national average, the disparity between white and black infant deaths is significant. Infant mortality for black babies, at 9.7 per 1,000 live births, is more than three times the rate among white babies, state data show. With a grant from The New Jersey Department of Health, Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative, Cape May County Council For Young Children and Rutgers Southern Regional Child Care Resource and Referral Agency have closely collaborated to introduce a non-stigmatizing, universal approach to providing support to any pregnant or new parent in the county. The goal of the Prenatal Yes Forum is to strengthen the bodies and minds of pregnant mothers as they prepare to welcome their beautiful new babies.
Join us every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Historic Whitesboro Grammar School located at 100 East Main Street in Whitesboro, NJ. Please contact prenatalyes@gmail.com or call 609-425-3937 for information, childcare or transportation.
Each pregnant mother will receive a new baby monitor, mat, water bottle, bag and a gift card. (Limited to 10 Pregnant Mothers).
