RIO GRANDE – The nationwide retailer JC Penney is proud to offer the first “Round-Up for Kids” Fundraiser for 2011, from April13 through 26. During that 14-day period, shoppers at our local Rio Grande JCPenney store are invited to round up their purchases to the next whole dollar.
The JCPenney Afterschool Fund donates the difference, along with a contribution from JCPenney, to the Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program. The 4-H youth program uses the funds to provide children in Cape May County with access to life-enriching programs that foster leadership development, self confidence, new friendships, public speaking skills and dedication to community service. All funds raised locally are spent on 4-H youth outreach efforts within the county.
“The availability of affordable afterschool programs continues to be an important community objective in order to meet the needs of working families,” said Scott Franklin, Store Manager. “As customers shop for the Easter season, we hope they will keep our mission in mind by rounding up their purchases to benefit a local cause.” All funds raised from JCPenney’s Round Up campaign will make it possible for more local youth to participate in 4-H Cape May County afterschool programming.
JCPenney will hold additional round-ups this year on August 3-16, October 12-25 and December 1-12, just in time for holiday shopping. The 4-H Youth Development Program is part of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station and Rutgers Cooperative Extension. 4-H educational programs are offered to all youth, grades K-13, on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability. For more information about 4-H in Cape May County, contact the 4-H office at 609-465-5115, ext. 605.
