When Bud and Bobbi Dunham wanted to purchase sporting goods for their children, they searched high and low in Cape May County. But they ended up traveling more than 30 miles to Pleasantville to get the right equipment.
It wasn’t just a one-time problem. Even after their kids left home, the sports enthusiast couple was challenged to find what they needed close to home.
The decision to open Just Sports, Inc. was a natural move for the Dunhams, who previously owned Dad’s Place Boats.
“We wanted to do a general purpose sporting goods store, which covered every sport for every season of the year,” said Bud. “Because we had a background in boating, we have an extensive fishing department. Also, because of the area, our guns and ammo department is very popular. We also carry the full range of ball sports, and we do it year-round because people don’t limit their sport to a certain season anymore.”
The Dunhams pride themselves in carrying not only the full range of sporting equipment but the best quality at the right price.
“If you need baseball bats, girls’ lacrosse sticks, you name it, we offer the best quality product at a price that’s affordable,” Bud noted. “We’re an authorized Nike dealer; we’ve built relationships with the large suppliers over the years.”
Just Sports’ competition is primarily the big box stores, but those stores don’t offer what the Dunhams can.
“Our customers get personal service,” said Bud. “We make sure that your equipment fits you properly and works well.”
Thus their tagline: Why Go Anywhere Else?
After 15 years in business, the local ‘mom and pop’ shop has become part of the fabric of the community. Not only have they now served generations of repeat customers, they’ve become enthusiastic supporters of their customers’ sports. The Dunhams support local little league teams, batting cages and other sports activities throughout the area.
“I couldn’t ask for a better line of work,” said Bud. “My wife and I truly love this business.”
Just Sports is located at 21 Mechanic Street in Cape May Courthouse. The store is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
