10th Annual Run/Walk for Autism Raises More Than $100

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY — More than 3,000 runners and walkers participated in the 10th Annual Mike’s Seafood Polar Bear Run/Walk for Autism on Sunday, Feb. 18 to help raise funds and awareness for autism. The proceeds from this year’s event totaled more than $100,000, with donations still coming in daily. They will benefit Autism Speaks, Special Services Schools, Autism Support Groups, and families of special-needs children in Cape May, Atlantic and Cumberland counties.
At noon, participants gathered on the Promenade for the 5K run and 1-mile walk that encourage participants of all ages to enjoy the scenic route in Sea Isle City. At the sound of the buzzer, runners proceeded south on the Promenade, while the walkers went north. For the third consecutive year, 34-year-old Zach Miller of West Chester, Pa., was the first male to cross the finish line in the 5K run, and 31-year-old Bridgette Higgins was the first female for the second straight year. Alexander Ermold came in second and Marquis Cox placed third in the overall men’s category. Among women, Susan Reich took second place and Sarah Tull third.
Following the Run/Walk, families were treated to a performance by the Joseph A. Ferko String Band, a continental buffet, giveaways, character visits and an awards ceremony.
Donations are still being accepted online at www.polarbearrunwalkforautism.com. Next year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019.
