COURT HOUSE – Six of eight eligible Cub Scouts, wearing their newly-presented Arrow of Light badge and green shoulder bands, departed Pack 65 when they ceremonially crossed the wooden bridge into Boy Scout Troop 65.
The scouts were watched Feb. 6 by families and friends in the Memorial Hall of First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House.
Overseeing the evening was Cubmaster Brian Maund assisted by adult leaders.
Qualified for the Arrow of Light, the only Cub Scout badge that is worn on a Boy Scout uniform, were: Cody Rosensteel, Corbin Stehman, Jake King, Jarrod Carlson, Matthew Hirt, Robert Schaefer, Steven Lashley and Steven Smith. Lashley and Stehman were absent.
To underscore the importance of scouting and youth, in the front row observing the ceremony were First District legislators Sen. Jeff Van Drew, Assemblyman Robert Andrzejczak, Assemblyman Bruce Land (all D-1st); Freeholder Jeffrey Pierson and Middle Township Mayor Michael Clark.
The legislators, freeholder, and the mayor presented each scout with a resolution that attested to their achievement.
Also watching were young Lion Cubs in their first year of scouting. As each progress through scout’s ranks, they will attain Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and then Webelos.
Along the way, the Cubs will go on field trips, attend summer camp at Belleplain State Forest, create Pinewood Derby race cars from wooden blocks and make friends.
Baysea Senior District Scout Executive William Wasekanes presented Pack 65’s charter to Sandi Garrison-Maund, committee chair. She will present the charter to the Cape May Court House Fire Department as the pack’s sponsor.
Maund told the gathering that Boy Scouts in the United States would mark the organization’s 107th anniversary Feb. 8.
