COURT HOUSE – Parents and community members voted Bishop McHugh the “2017 Most Loved Private School of Cape May County” on Hulafrog.com, a popular parenting website. This is the second time that the school has won this honor.
“This award is a reflection of the excellent work and positive environment created by our faculty and staff,” said Principal Tom McGuire. “We’ve built something special here at Bishop McHugh, and we’re so pleased to be recognized with this honor.”
Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School is a PreK-8 regional school in Cape May County with a student-centered curriculum grounded in the Gospel values. Bishop McHugh students receive instruction in the core academic subjects, in religion, music and the fine arts, Spanish, technology, and athletics. The curriculum includes a 21st century focus with STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics), and a state-of-the-art literacy program that includes DRA reading assessment and Daily Five reading and writing.
There also are extracurricular activities including cheerleading, basketball, baseball, soccer, cross country, theatre, band and chorus. The soccer and cross country teams compete in the Atlantic-Cape League. The basketball teams compete in the Atlantic Cape League, the Cape Atlantic League, and the South Shore Recreation League.
Students also may participate in seasonal clubs, such as the coding club, art mosaic club, chess club, and more. Middle school students may join Team Mercy, a student council that teaches kindness and thoughtfulness through school-based, student-run activities and community outreach. This includes food and clothing drives, holiday outreach programs, Spirit Days, and Prayer Partners.
Students’ families also are invited to participate throughout the year. Family programs include an ice cream social, family fun night, laps for learning, pep rallies, monthly liturgies, Halloween tailgate party, breakfast with Santa, casino night, golf outing, mother’s prayer group, and numerous student performances. An active parent volunteer program also is in place.
