1. Thank You
“Friends are angels, following you through life”
On March 7, my mother, Carol Shackleton, passed away- just seven weeks after the death of my sister Tracy Shackleton. The loss of her daughter was an emotional blow from which Mom, already weakened and made fragile by her own chronic illnesses, could not recover. This traumatic time was devastating to me, who had the care of both beloved ladies, but God- rich in mercy and love- sent ministering angels in my time of overwhelming need. Friends and total strangers who became friends responded with support that carried me along and kept me going. Their words of encouragement, acts of selfless service, loving kindness, and astonishing generosity reflected the Divine. The names of all these angels are too many to list here, but I feel compelled to publicly acknowledge Journey Hospice of Egg Harbor Township and the extraordinary staff who tended to Mom and to me: Tara, Kim, Annemarie, Brittani, Cindy (affiliated through Physicians Housecall Providers), and Rev. Robert Velazquez. I thank Andrea Maher and Brenda Douglass, whom God used to form the chain of links that connected Tara to me. And I thank Punky Rusiloski, Eucharistic minister for St. John Neumann Parish, for her daily devotion to Mom.
With deepest humility and gratitude, I thank each one of you,
named and unnamed, my friends and angels.
