Cape May County is home to some very special and well known ocean and bay front beaches, but one little known beach that is completely land locked was recognized by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders for a generous donation made to the Animal Shelter. Beck’s Beach has gone to the dogs and raised $4,586 for the Cape May County Animal Shelter.
Beck’s Beach, a patch of land in Dennis Township named after its owners, Ed and Barbara Beck, is a backyard beach-like paradise complete with sand, palm trees, a lifeguard stand and life boat. Beck’s Beach is a perfect oasis for the Beck family and their dog, Scoobi, a male Yorkie adopted from the animal shelter.
The Beck’s were looking for a way to raise funds for the Animal Shelter and decided they would sell beach tags for Beck’s Beach. The badges were produced by the Jersey Cape Diagnostic Center and sold for $10 each. The Beck’s ordered 250 badges and were hoping to raise $2,500 for the shelter. They started selling them on Facebook to their friends and family in early January. To increase the donation amount, they decided to auction off Beck’s Beach Badge #001 to the highest bidder. The bidding was fierce and by the close of the auction, Badge #001 was sold to Elizabeth Bozzelli for $450. Bozzelli, also an owner of a shelter dog named Tula, wanted to give back to the animal shelter and support the animals who are waiting for their forever home. “Tula won Badge #001 but all the animals at the Cape May County Shelter are the winners,” said Ed Beck.
The donation was accepted by Judith Davies-Dunhour, Shelter Manager, and Leslie Riedel and Ashley Deaton of the Shelter staff. Freeholder Leonard C. Desiderio, liaison to the Animal Shelter congratulated the Becks on their donation and thanked those who purchased the beach badges. “This was a successful fundraiser that not only generated a nice donation for the animal shelter, but also helped to spread the word about the need to support the care and upkeep of the animals at the shelter.”
The Cape May County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center welcomes and greatly appreciates monetary donations to the spay/neuter fund and the Animal Shelter Trust Fund. Money from these funds enable animals to receive lifesaving medical procedures and medications. Donations can be mailed to:
