SEA ISLE CITY – On Aug. 28, the volunteers who lead and organize Sea Isle City’s Beachcomber Guided Tours held a special luncheon at Mike’s Dock Restaurant in historic Fish Alley to celebrate their organization’s 25th Anniversary. The gathering was attended by dozens of active and retired tour guides – several of whom have been associated with the Beachcombers for a quarter-century.
In addition to an enjoyable seafood buffet, the dozens of volunteers who attended the luncheon received high-praise from Beachcomber Director Eleanor Moore. Additionally, Mayor Desiderio’s office honored the entire group for their commitment to the environment – and for entertaining and educating more than 45,000 people over the years.
“I think the tours are successful because they are very informative and enjoyable,” said Moore. “We offer a lot of interesting information for adults, but the tours are also geared for children. Plus, people really enjoy interacting with our tour guides. Our volunteers are amazing and very devoted. They show-up rain or shine, and I have often witnessed guides staying late to answer questions long after the tours were over.”
Since 1988, more than 45,000 participants have enjoyed Sea Isle City’s award-winning Beachcomber Tours. Sponsored by Sea Isle’s Environmental Commission, the one-hour tours take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during the summer months. They are often considered the “best buck you can spend at the beach” because they cost only $1 per person and each child who signs-up for a tour receives a free sand bucket and “Sara the Turtle” coloring book. After each tour ends, all tour-takers take an oath to protect the beaches and preserve nature.
