CAPE MAY AIRPORT — NJ-Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum (NASW), located at the Cape May Airport, is offering a new service: a charging station for use by electric cars. “Part of our mission is to give back to the community that supports us,” explained Executive Director Dr. Joseph Salvatore, who initiated the project. “As a museum that celebrates technological innovations and educates visitors about science and engineering concepts, we felt the charging station would fit right in,” Salvatore concluded.
According to online databases, this electric vehicle charging station is one of only a handful of such locations in Cape May County. The use of the 50 amp, 220 volt charging station is offered free of charge to museum visitors, and for a small fee to others. The number of electric cars on the road in the United States has doubled over the past 12 months. About 8,200 public charging stations exist in the United States, but demand for these will only rise with increased electric car sales.
Cape May Airport was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center. The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945.
