In 1993 the Civic Club purchased their first surf chair to enable the handicapped to enjoy Avalon’s beaches and continues to purchase the chairs as needed. These chairs are loaned free of charge to anyone who needs them.
Each year they give awards to two graduating eighth grade students, donate to the American Legion, and in the past two years they have given gift certificates to foster children, donated the Wii at the Senior Center, and donated $2,000 to the county women’s shelter and over $2,000 to local food banks.
The club meets at 12:30 on the 4th Monday of the month, from April to October, so that our summer residents can fully participate. All meetings except for the October Luncheon are at the Avalon Community Center.
President Rose Marie Chew is looking forward to the varied programs that 1st Vice President Ann Hoffman has planned for the 2010 club year.
New members are always welcome. If you would like to join the Civic Club, call membership chairman Alba Bishof at 967-4476.
