Avalon Seafood Festival Rescheduled for Nov. 2

By Press Release

AVALON – Due to the inclement weather forecast for this weekend, the Avalon Chamber of Commerce has decided to reschedule the annual Seafood Festival. The new dates will be Nov. 2 and Nov. 3, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A press release below indicating new dates has been updated.
Complete with pumpkins, hay bales and delicious seafood, the Avalon Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Seafood Festival on Oct. 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held at 30th Street and the beach in Avalon, and will feature crafts, gifts, live entertainment, children’s games and activities, and of course, the best seafood in the area.
Sound Advice returns with the popular Sound Advice Lounge, allowing visitors to enjoy the weekend football games on large-screen televisions. Beer and wine will be available for purchase, including fall favorites such as Sam Adams Oktoberfest.
Bring the kids with you to participate in the fall- and seafood-themed crafts and activities including face painting, bounce houses, crafts, games and more. The winners of the Seven Mile Times’ coloring contest will be announced at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The page to color is in the Seven Mile Times’ Endless Summer edition, so kids should grab a copy and test their coloring skills. Also included in the list of activities are pumpkin painting, cooking demonstrations, carnival games and much more.
Local restaurants will compete on both days of the festival. The return of the popular Clam Shucking Contest is scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m., and local “shuckers” will race to the finish in a shucking showdown. On Sunday afternoon, the public is invited to judge local restaurants’ entries in the popular Chowder Championship Contest. Participants can purchase a ticket to enter a blind taste-testing and vote for their favorite. The entry with the most votes will be declared the 2014 Chowder Champion. The 2013 winner, the Golden Inn, will return to defend its title.
Live entertainment will also be featured throughout the weekend, listing popular local musicians including Marnie & Nate, Michael Thompson Duo, The Loosh Catastrophe Duo and more.
“This has always been a great event for Avalon, and I’m looking forward to some of the new activities that will be introduced this year,” says John O’Dea, president of the Avalon Chamber of Commerce. “The draw of seafood, music, football and family fun is perfect for a holiday weekend at the shore.”
