Avalon Receives Donations from Civic Club

AVALON – Members of the Avalon Civic Club made a large donation to the Borough of Avalon that financed the purchase of three new beach surf beach chairs for the Borough. The chairs are used to enhance access to the Avalon beach and boardwalk for individuals with mobility issues. A check totaling $3,865 dollars was presented to Avalon Chief Financial Officer Jim Craft March 21.
“Avalon deeply appreciates the efforts of the Avalon Civic Club for raising these funds to purchase new surf chairs for our residents and visitors”, said Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi. “I’ve always believed that Avalon’s generous volunteers and service organizations are truly the fabric of our community. The Civic Club’s longtime support of the surf chair program is appreciated by many residents and visitors who need a little extra assistance to enjoy our beachfront”.
Avalon makes the surf chairs available for free on a first come, first served basis at three locations along the beachfront: 9th Street, 30th Street, and 80th Street. Reservations for the surf chairs can be made by calling the Avalon Beach Patrol at (609) 967-7587.
For over 70 years, the Avalon Civic Club and its members have fostered a love and pride in the Borough. On the fourth Monday of each month, the Club meets at 12:30 p.m. from April through October at Avalon Community Hall; meetings are open to the public and free of charge. Funds realized from various events are given back to community causes including the Surf Chair Program. Previously named the Women’s Civic Club of Avalon, the Club is believed to be the longest standing organization in Avalon. Records indicate that in the late 1930’s, a group of women led by Club President Mrs. Arader penned goals of improving the Borough similar to the mission and commitment made by members today.
