AVALON — Let your overdue book fines help those in need! From now through Nov. 26, the Avalon Free Public Library will sponsor a Food for Fines program. This program will allow patrons to “pay” their overdue book fines with donations of non-perishable canned or packaged food items.
Each donated item will be equal to $1 in fines. This will apply to existing fines only. Library materials must be returned before the food donation can be applied as payment. Donations are always welcome! All food items are sent to the Holy Redeemer Food Bank.
The Avalon Library received 5 stars in Library Journal’s national rating of public libraries, based on statistical performance data collected by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Avalon Library is one of only three libraries in New Jersey to receive the 5-Star designation six times since 2009. The library is located at 235 32nd Street and provides free and open access to first class collections, services and programs that inspire, inform and enrich the community. For more information on all library programs, please visit the library website at www.avalonfreelibrary.org.
