AVALON – The Avalon Free Public Library will host the following events during the month of October.

Story Time
Join us for stories, songs and crafts for children of all ages.

3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Creative Writing
Receive tips and feedback on poetry, memoirs, short stories, articles, and books. Record an audio version and share your story. Registration is requested by calling 609-967-7155 or stopping by the circulation desk.

10 a.m. to noon
iPad Workshop- iCloud & iDrive
Learn the differences between iCloud and the iCloud Drive. Do you need them or is there an alternative? Be sure you have your Apple ID and password. (Required prior to class) Registration is required by calling 609-967-7155 or stopping by the circulation desk.

Fishing Lecture
Captain Richard Herb, Acting Chair (Sportfish) of the Marine Fisheries Council, will be here to discuss the new Striped Bass Tag Program, 2016 fishing regulations and tautog and striped bass fishing techniques. He will also review the 2015 summer flounder season.

Genealogy Workshop: Beginning Your Family Research
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is find out about your family’s history. You may have heard a story about your grandparents or their parents but you aren’t certain about how to discover the truth behind the story. Perhaps they arrived from a small town in Europe with only the clothes on their backs. The challenge of researching your family is not finding the documents- it’s the new stories that you uncover! Genealogy Workshop: The Debris They Left Behind
Perhaps someone in your family shows you or gives you something that belonged to someone in your family. Sometimes an object or story stirs your curiosity about that family member and you want to learn more about them or the object. In this workshop, you will learn how to enhance or add to your genealogical research through objects made by your ancestors and places/sources where they are held. Feature Film- Tomorrowland

Mosaics Art Workshop- Candleholder
Create a colorful globe candleholder with bits of transparent stained glass. In Monday’s session, participants will adhere brightly colored bits in their choice of design onto a glass globe. On Tuesday, participants will grout with black to give the look of a traditional stained glass piece and maximum the intensity of the colors. Participants will be able to take their finished projects home at the end of the second session. Candleholder is approximately 4″ and holds a tea light (provided). Stained glass is tumbled to remove sharp edges. All materials and instruction are included. Registration is required by calling 609-967-7155 or stopping by the circulation desk.
