COURT HOUSE – The Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage will host a Law Day panel discussion and an awards ceremony on Friday, May 3 at the Cape May County Courthouse, 9 N. Main St., Cape May Court House.
Assignment Judge Julio L. Mendez and Daniel Kurkowski, president of the Cape May County Bar Association, will preside over the awards ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Awards will be presented to the winners of the Law Day essay contest and the Spirit of the Community recipient. The ceremony also will recognize the winner of the Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition.
At 9:30 a.m., the Cape May County Bar Association will host a panel discussion on the First Amendment. Retired Superior Court Judge Nelson Johnson will participate on the panel with attorneys John C. Connell and Lauren James-Weir. Gilbert M. Gaul, a retired Pulitzer-Prize winning reporter who worked for the The Washington Post and The Philadelphia Inquirer, also will participate on the panel. Attorney Frank Corrado will moderate the discussion.
A ceremonial opening of the third floor of the Cape May County Courthouse will begin at noon. Tours will be conducted immediately following the ceremony. Representatives from Cape May County government, the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office and the Cape May County Bar Association will participate in the opening
