Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage to Host Law Day Activities for Local High School Students

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage will host a series of events with the Atlantic and Cape May County Bar Associations during the first week of May to celebrate the 58th annual observance of Law Day.
Throughout the week, students from Mainland Regional High School, Egg Harbor Township High School, Ocean City High School and Holy Spirit High School will take part in the vicinage’s One Judge, One School program. The program matches a Superior Court judge, a vicinage staff member and a representative from the county bar association with high school students and school staff for discussions on court-related topics.
The program will involve conversations about this year’s Law Day theme, “The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy,” as well as visits to observe civil and criminal court proceedings.
The members of the 2017 mock trial team from Mainland Regional High School will be honored at an awards ceremony May 1 at 8 a.m. in Courtroom 3A of the Atlantic County Civil Courts Building, 1201 Bacharach Blvd. Atlantic City.
Following the ceremony, a panel discussion on Criminal Justice Reform will be held with Criminal Division Presiding Judge Bernard E. DeLury, Municipal Division Presiding Judge Louis J. Belasco, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner, attorney Melissa Rosenblum Pisetzner and vicinage Pretrial Services Manager Jody Chase.
The vicinage will host an outreach event at the Atlantic City Bus Terminal on Atlantic Avenue May 3 at 8 a.m. Vicinage staff and staff from county and social service agencies will answer questions and distribute information.
The 2017 mock trial team from Lower Cape May Regional High School will be honored at the Cape May County Courthouse, 9 N. Main St., Cape May Court House May 4 at 9 a.m. After the ceremony, students from the mock trial team will share their experiences with students from Crest Memorial School.
There also will be a law fair in the lobby of the courthouse from 10 a.m. until noon. Attorneys, vicinage staff, and employees from county agencies and departments will host information tables. The American Red Cross will conduct a blood donation drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Cape May County Library’s Bookmobile will be in the courthouse parking lot.
