MAYS LANDING – The Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage will host a series of events with the Atlantic and Cape May county bar associations beginning Tuesday, April 30 to celebrate Law Day.
A wellness fair will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Atlantic County Criminal Courts Complex, 4997 Unami Blvd., Mays Landing.
Nearly 40 vendors will be present to share information on health, wellness and addiction recovery. Information tables will be set up inside and outside of the courthouse.
On Wednesday, May 1, Assignment Judge Julio L. Mendez and Superior Court Judge Christine Smith will join a representative from the Atlantic County Bar Association to visit fourth-grade students at Pennsylvania Avenue Elementary School in Atlantic City. The students made posters with the theme “What does freedom mean to you?” The posters will be displayed in the Atlantic County Civil Courts Building in Atlantic City.
The members of the 2019 Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition team from Mainland Regional High School in Linwood will be presented with the Honorable Carol Higbee trophy at 1 p.m. in courtroom 3A of the Civil Courts Building, 1201 Bacharach Blvd., Atlantic City. The Atlantic County Bar Association will recognize South Jersey Field of Dreams and the JCC of Atlantic County for their fundraising efforts.
Members of the Atlantic County Bar Association will host a panel discussion on “The Do’s and Don’ts of Trial Advocacy” at 2:30 p.m. in courtroom 3A. The discussion will address the perceived erosion of professionalism and civility in the courtroom.
Judge Smith and Superior Court Judge Mary Siracusa will participate on the panel with attorneys Edward Jacobs, Kenneth Mackler, Robert Paarz and Paul D’Amato. Superior Court Judge James P. Savio will moderate the event, which provides attorneys with two continuing legal education credits.
