MAYS LANDING — Miles Carter, an Atlantic Cape Community College freshman, has been named the NJCAA, Division III, Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 5-11. Carter, a 6-3 guard of Rosenhayn, also earned the Garden State Athletic Conference Division III Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award. Carter is being recognized for averaging 30.5 points for the Buccaneers as they defeated Brookdale Community College on Dec. 8 and lost to Bergen Community College on Dec. 10.
“On Thursday, Miles scored 40 points and made the game-winning free-throw with two seconds left as the Bucs defeated Brookdale 90-89,” said Michael Rennick, Atlantic Cape’s assistant director of Athletics. He added that on Saturday, Carter scored 21 points in the Bucs’ 79-75 loss to Bergen.
“Miles is certainly one of the top players in the region,” Rennick says. “He is a great outside shooter, and he is also one of our top inside players. He makes our team competitive with anyone as shown by his 40-point game against Brookdale, one of the best programs in the country.”
According to the Garden State Athletic Conference, “Carter had a massive game in the win over Brookdale, as he scored 40 points, including 30 points in the second half.” The GSAC also noted that for the week, Carter made seven of 10 3-point attempts and 16 of 20 free throws. Carter also leads his team for the season in scoring with a 19.9 PPG average.
The Buccaneers, who compete in NJCAA Region XIX, are two-time Garden State Athletic Conference champions and have featured several All Region and NJCAA All-American players.
