COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program is kicking off the new 4-H year with an open house on Sept. 25, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center, located at 355 Court House-S. Dennis Rd., in Cape May Court House. All are welcome!
4-H club members and leaders invite interested youth and families to join them for a showcase of current 4-H clubs and programs. Activities will include hands-on crafts, environmental science, games and give-aways. Food prepared by 4-H Foundation members will be available for purchase.
The 4-H Youth Development Program serves young people in kindergarten through one year out of high school with programs such as school and after school clubs, camps, workshops, regional and national trips and special events. 4-H clubs are led by trained, adult volunteers and offer youth community service opportunities, the chance to explore an area of interest while making new friends and public speaking and record keeping experience. 4-H members receive recognition for their efforts and achievements.
Currently, Cape May County offers clubs in project areas such as teen leadership, herpetology, cooking, Lego, horse and livestock projects, sewing, gardening and archery. New clubs are starting all the time, such as one just for youth who love horses but do not own their own. The 4-H Cloverbud Club specializes in activities for children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
Also that week, 4-H is offering Sea-Science Investigations, a series of three marine science programs on Sept. 24, 27 and 30 at the Ocean City Library. The free programs will be held in the Ocean City Library Lecture Hall from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at 1735 Simpson Ave. in Ocean City. Area youth K-12 are invited, with registration requested.
