COURT HOUSE – 4-H Legopalooza is back! The popular day of Lego-themed fun for youth will take place Feb. 22 at the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center, 355 Court House–S. Dennis Road, Cape May Court House. Activities for this free family event begin at 11:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. The event will include hands-on Lego stations, a Lego Builds and Bashes Contest and screenings of new Brick Films.
Legopalooza II is designed to offer kids a taste of the 4-H experience; including opportunities to showcase original work, enjoy hands-on activities and receive recognition for their efforts. Activities will be offered by staff from the Cape May County Library, 4-H staff and volunteers and two 4-H clubs: the CMC 4-H Junior First Lego League and the Fuzzy Logic 4-H Robotics Club.
Participants are invited to bring their own Lego creations to showcase and enter in a Lego Builds and Bashes Contest. Entries must be dropped off from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The first 20 to register will receive a free Lego kit. Contest judging begins at 11:30 a.m. No further registrations will be accepted after judging begins.
The contest includes two categories for four different age groups. The “Builds” category is for entries built according to a kit and instructions. “Bashes” entries are those based on original construction or design. Age groups are 5-8 years, 9-12 years, 13-16 years, and 17 years-adult. Trophies will be awarded for each age group. Group entries may be entered, but should be entered in the age group of the oldest participant. Local educators and community members have been recruited to judge the contest.
Legopalooza II is free and open to the public. In order to help plan the event, preregistration is requested at (609) 465-5115, ext 605. The Cape May County 4-H Foundation will run a concession stand with lunch items for sale.
