AVALON – Choppy waves, whipped by a northeast wind, and a drenching drizzle did not stop the 24th Brendan Borek High Tides Surf Memorial Aug. 2. Delayed somewhat by the weather, the event drew a large crowd at 30th Street beach.
Brendan’s Fund hosted a week of fundraising events. They began July 29 at the Avalon Yacht Club with the Artists and Friends Art Show. Local artists contributed 50 percent of the proceeds from the sale of their artwork. Art work is represented in many forms – paintings in styles that vary from surf art to traditional realism to contemporary abstract expressionism, photography, sculpture and hand-made jewelry.
The Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund is a local grass roots organization that provides comprehensive, compassionate and personalized assistance to local pediatric cancer patients and their families. Since 1992, Brendan’s Fund has helped area families through the crisis of their child’s illness.
