The Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program congratulates the winners of its 2019 4-H Equestrian of the Year Contest. Mina LaFrance was selected by a panel of judges as the 4-H Senior Equestrian of the Year. Mina is an 11th grade student at Middle Township High School and a member of the Star Hollow Riders 4-H Club. Our First Runner Up in the Contest was Elise Heim, 10th grader at Lower Cape May Regional High School. Elise is a member of the Shore Blazers 4-H Club and the Star Hollow Riders 4-H Club.
The contestants were judged on a written resume and 4-H story, a personal interview and a 4 to 6 minute stage presentation. The stage presentation topic was “Define the word ‘horsemanship,’ and discuss how it applies to you as a 4-H horse project member. If your horse could talk, what would he or she say about your horsemanship skills and dedication?”
Both young women did an excellent job in the contest and are outstanding representatives of the Cape May County 4-H Horse Program.
The Equestrian of the Year will represent 4-H at events around the county and state and will be at the Cape May County 4-H Fair on July 18, 19, and 20 at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Cape May Court House. Also, Mina will go on to represent the county at the NJ State 4-H Equestrian of the Year Contest in August.
