SEA ISLE CITY – The Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization will host the resort’s 20th Annual Polar Bear Plunge during President’s Weekend. The festivities will begin on Friday night, Feb. 14, with the Polar Bear “Royal Family” contests under a giant heated tent at the LaCosta Complex, JFK Boulevard and Landis Avenue. In addition to receiving great prizes, the winners of the King, Queen, Prince and Princess contests will lead thousands of plungers into the Atlantic Ocean Feb. 15.
The Polar Bear Prince and Princess competitions, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization, will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night. The contests are open to students, age 12 to 16. Contestants will be judged on appearance and personality. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by downloading an entry form at www.seaislechamber.com. The pre-registration fee (prior to Feb. 14) is $20 and the same-day registration fee is $25.
The Polar Bear King and Queen Contests, hosted by KIX McNutley’s Package Goods and Lounge, will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This competition is open to men and women age 21 and over. Contestants will be judged by their on-stage interviews (50%) and by how much money each personally raises for Autism charities prior to the contest (50%). Pre-registration is encouraged by downloading an application form at www.lacosta-seaisle.com. All funds raised by the King and Queen contestants will be donated to the Mike’s Seafood Polar Bear 5K Run & Walk for Autism, which will take place Feb. 16.
Sea Isle’s 2014 Polar Bear King, Queen, Prince and Princess will be chosen by a panel of celebrity judges, and each will have a one-year reign. In addition to crowns and sashes, each will receive iPad Minis. The “Royal Family” will be invited to appear in this year’s Polar Bear Parade – plus they will lead plungers into the Atlantic Ocean Feb. 15. The King, Queen, Prince and Princess will also be invited to participate in various events in Sea Isle City throughout the coming year.
