WOODBINE – The Woodbine Branch of the Cape May County Library, 800 Monroe Street, will host a Kickoff Event for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, March 12 at 1:30 p.m.
All parents and caregivers of children birth to 5 years old are invited, along with their children, this 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Kickoff Events. There will be a short introduction to the program as well as stories, activities, and even a chance to meet one of our favorite book characters.
Children who read at an early age are more successful in school. Children who are read to have bigger vocabularies when they enter school. The ability to learn language skills is the greatest before the age of six. If you read just one book a day with your child, you’ll reach 1,000 books in less than three years.
If you cannot make it the event, you can register your child for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten anytime after March 18 at your local Cape May County Library branch.

“This reminds me of our achievement during the 2013-2014 schoolyear, when Mrs. Newman’s first graders read a total of 1610 books under my Mayor’s Book Club. The New Jersey State League of Municipalities Education Foundation chose Woodbine to participate in that annual program to promote early literacy,” added Mayor Pikolycky.
