WILDWOOD – A Clayton man was arrested, Sept. 22, for allegedly stealing two paddleboards from a Lake Avenue residence.

The Wildwood Police Department received a report of a burglary in the 2700 block of Lake Avenue at approximately 3:01 a.m., Sept. 22. Patrol officers were dispatched to a residence there and obtained surveillance video of a man entering the backyard and removing two paddleboards worth an estimated $700.

Later that day, at around 7:30 p.m., a suspect matching the description of the alleged thief was observed near the intersection of Garfield and Pacific avenues. Police said they detained Jay Riehl, 36, of Clayton, who was ultimately charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree theft.

Riehl received additional charges for possession of CDS (controlled dangerous substance) paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense. The investigation also led to the recovery of the stolen items.

Riehl was released on a summons complaint.
