BUCKMAN, JOAN L.

BUCKMAN, JOAN L. Joan L. Buckman, 85, of Cape May, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2023. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, on May 7, 1938. Joan married Samuel T. Buckman, Jr. on June 18, 1960, and together they built a beautiful life. She was a loving mother to her two daughters, Deborah B. Magee and Gail T. Buckman, and she held a special place in her heart for Brian Adair (Gail's partner) and her late son-in-law, James J. Magee. She adored and loved her grandchildren, James J. Magee and Kalyn T. Magee. Joan was the cherished daughter of the late William A. and Isabella T. Llewellyn, and a beloved sister to William A. Llewellyn, Jr. Joan was blessed with a loving extended family, including her brother-in-law Lewis T. Buckman, sister-in-law Claudia Buckman, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters-in-law Sandy Llewellyn and Charlotte Buckman, and her parents-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Samuel T. Buckman. Joan was a proud graduate of Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She continued her education at Wilkes College, where she earned a B.S. in Elementary Education. Joan was a woman of many interests. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May. Joan's love for cooking was a treat for all who knew her, with Sunday nights and holidays spent around the family table. Her Boston Terrier, Bella, was a constant companion. Joan cheered on the Sixers, Eagles, and the Phillies with enthusiasm. She also found great joy in gardening in her yard, and going on bus trips to Broadway shows and the Rockettes. In addition, she enjoyed shopping with her daughter, Gail. In many ways, Joan was a woman of simple pleasures. Yet, her impact on those around her was profound. She was a pillar of strength, a beacon of love, and an example of grace. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed. Friends and family can gather on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Spilker Funeral Home in Cape May, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can go to the American Heart Association, Shriners Children's, or an animal shelter of your choice.
