BOWERSOCK, ROBERT
After a battle with Alzheimer's, on July 22, 2025, Robert Bowersock “Big Bad Bob” passed away peacefully at home on the bay, surrounded by his loving family and graced with a beautiful sunset to end his final Chapter of Life. Bob was born on January 20, 1940. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He was most proud of helping to save a man's life during a daring sea rescue on the USS Unimak. After his service, he met his wife MaryEllen Leahy (Mel) and welcomed his son, Daniel, who was his pride and joy. He went on to work as a lineman for Bell Atlantic Telephone for 33 years. Upon retiring, he worked as a bus driver for the Middle Township School District. Bob spent the majority of his Life enjoying nature. He was an avid wood carver, fisherman and hunter. Some of his best memories were going deer hunting in Maine every year with his son, Dan, and his best friend, Ken Thompson. He also enjoyed all sorts of fishing, from the mountains to the sea. Whenever we are on a mountain or on the water, we will reflect back and cherish our fond memories with Big Bob. Bob loved archery and loved to brag about how he won the State Championship with a perfect score hitting a bullseye every time. He also loved the beach, kayaking, trains, and spending time with his family. He was so proud of his grandchildren, Lauren and Daniel, and was in his happy place when he was with them. Bob is predeceased by his wife, Mel, of 39 years. He leaves behind his son, Dan Bowersock and wife Jennifer, his granddaughter Lauren and her husband Zach Riley, his grandson Daniel Bowersock and his fiancé Maddie Kitchen, and his loving companion of 7 years, Paulette Bernacki. Paulette and Bob enjoyed many adventures to Maine, New York, and on a train trip out West making the most of life. She lovingly cared for him until the very end. Bob's love of nature inspired him to have a natural burial. He will be buried at Steelmantown Cemetery in Bellplain State Forest. The family would like to thank Visiting Angels, Brookdale Assisted Living, and Serenity Hospice Care for all of the compassionate and loving care they provided. Burial will be private. Donations in Bob's honor can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
