Every week, the Cape May Point Science Center has a column in the Herald – learn about what’s going on at the Center by checking back every Wednesday.

Come take a tour at the Cape May Point Science Center! Learn more about the rich history of Cape May Point including that of our majestic building, which was built as the Shoreham Hotel, but is better known as St. Mary’s By-the-Sea. Our tours also highlight the ecological significance of the Cape May area and its importance to migratory birds, butterflies, marine mammals, horseshoe crabs and other marine wildlife as well as the many ways the CMPSC is involved in assisting in local, regional and national efforts to understand the biology, behavior and migration patterns of these animals.

We will be running tours Thursday to Sunday until June 16th and Wednesday to Sunday June 19 to 30. Starting in July, we will be open every day except Tuesday. Check out our website for exact tour times and come join us!

Our Third Thursday Lunchtime Lecture Series kicks off on Thursday, June 20 from 12 to 1 p.m. with a talk by Cape May Point Science Center Operations Manager, Rae Griffiths, entitled Let’s Talk About Bluebirds. When not working at the Science Center, Rae serves as Co-Coordinator of Cape May County for the New Jersey Bluebird Society, a role she has held since 2020. Come learn about the ecology of Eastern bluebirds and other native cavity-nesting species, hear about historic and current threats to their success, and find ways to help. Bring your lunch to enjoy during the presentation. A light dessert will provided by the Science Center!

On Saturday, June 22, the Cape May Point Science Center will be holding its popular Stargazing Night with a special viewing of the full moon. In partnership with Atlantic Cape Community College, Dr. Frank Toriello, a local astrophysicist and a professor at ACCC leads visitors through an exploration of the night sky with a short presentation in our Science Exhibit Hall and then celestial viewing through telescopes and telescopic binoculars in our beautiful outdoor courtyard. Feel free to bring your own telescopes if you wish!
