DENNISVILLE – A one-car accident took the life of a Belleplain woman on Thursday, June 19, after her vehicle left Woodbine Avenue westbound in the Belleplain section of Dennis Township and struck a tree, authorities said.

The State Police responded to a call about the crash at 3:34 a.m. State Police spokesman Jeffrey Lebron said a Honda Civic veered off the roadway to the right and crashed into a tree.

Shortly thereafter, Dennis and Woodbine fire units were dispatched as automatic aid to Belleplain Fire. The Dennis fire chief reported a single vehicle off the roadway on its side, with one occupant heavily entrapped. Leesburg Fire was requested for assistance with extrication.

The car’s one occupant, identified as Gabrielle Platt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dennis Squad 18, Engine 18 and Brush 18 responded and were on scene for about 3.5 hours with extrication, traffic control and investigation assistance.

AtlantiCare EMS, Inspira EMS and the Cape May County Road Department also responded to the scene.

The accident is under investigation by the State Police-Woodbine Barracks.
