BARRERAS, F. JOSEPH
F. Joseph (Joe) Barreras, 94, of North Cape May, NJ, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Joe joined the US Navy in 1948 and, during his six years of service, traveled to many parts of the world. In Cuba, he met the love of his life, Marie. They married in 1958 and moved back to Philadelphia where Joe opened a barbershop. They had three children and in 1978 Joe moved his family to North Cape May, NJ where he worked for the school district and became active with local veteran associations.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marie, his son Joey and his two brothers Robert Barreras and Charles Barreras. He is survived by his loving daughters Diane Szigeti (Jim) and Christine Feeney (John); five grandchildren Jimmy Szigeti, Michael Szigeti (Morelia), Sean Feeney, Casey Feeney, and Chelsea Barreras; great-grandson, Nicholas Szigeti; sister, Margarita Barreras-Glemser and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Joe will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering love for his family, gentle spirit, and sense of humor. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A service will be held for family and close friends at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, November 19th, at the Evoy Funeral Home in North Cape May, followed by an 11:00 AM mass at Saint John of God in North Cape May. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe's memory to The Knights of Columbus Charities (KOFC.org) or American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation (Legion.org). Condolences may be shared at
