AVALON – The retirement of James Craft, the borough’s long-serving chief financial officer, will mean the borough will be designating a new CFO. What the Borough Council heard at its April 10 work session was that Craft’s departure will also lead to the establishment of a new Division of Information Technology and Cyber Security.
Among Craft’s many talents, he provided leadership for the borough’s information technology and security efforts. With his departure the new division will be located in the Department of Administration.
No formal action has yet been taken. The work session discussion is likely a prelude to an upcoming resolution that will establish the new division and possibly name the individual who will head it.
Avalon is creating the new division as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security warns that “state and local governments are rich targets for cyber adversaries, and the frequency of attacks is accelerating.”
