To The Editor:
When, and if, you listen to the war mongering hawks in Washington, you might think that our lovely beaches here in Cape May County are about to be invaded by the marauding Islamic terrorists who are currently wreaking havoc in the Middle East, slaughtering anybody who is peaceful and defenseless.
The hawks insist that the threat to the USA is imminent and they want our boots on the ground in Syria and Iraq to immediately stop ISIL in its tracks.
Well, first let’s take a look at the ISIL threat to the USA. It is zero. These cowardly terrorists are nothing more than a few thousand disillusioned and certifiably crazed lunatics, screaming around the desert with light armor and rifles, attacking villages and towns which are essentially defenseless. They murder their fellow Islamists and plunder their homes in the name of some made up caliphate that will never be.
There is almost no Islamic Middle Eastern country that has not currently declared war on ISIL and that includes Iran. If they last out the year without retreating into the mountains, it would be a surprise.
And, have no fear, our beaches and all the beaches and borders of the good old USA are safe from ISIL and, for that matter, anybody else, including Russia or China or North Korea, who might ever get the notion in their befuddled heads to invade our homeland. When ISIL or al-Qaida or anyone from that ilk, gets a world-class air force and a navy that will be the day to start worrying.
The USA is not the 500-pound gorilla in the room. We are the 5,000-ton gorilla in the room. Nobody can challenge our might, power and global capabilities. That includes Russia and China.
Besides, we have never been invaded and probably never will. With oceans to the east and west and friends to the North and South, we are practically impregnable to invading armies.
Because, the first week of any invasion is the easy part. It is the second through the end of the weeks that is the hard part. Establishing and maintaining thousands of miles of supply lines is just not feasible across the oceans.
The troops need bullets and they need food. History indicates that D-Day may have never occurred if England (the Allies’ stepping stone to Europe) had been overrun by the Germans. England was and is no France. For Hitler even the narrow English Channel proved a bridge too far.
So we are safe – very safe. The 2015 tourism season in Cape May County will be a great one, uninterrupted by invading Islamic crazies.
But we all must be prepared for the war hawks’ frenzied warnings, “the sky is falling, the sky is falling.” It is important to ignore the “balanced” news broadcasters and keep our minds on the reality of ISIL’s hollow threats and keep our soldiers away from the battle. Let the desert hordes rip each other apart.
Cape May – The number one reason I didn’t vote for Donald Trump was January 6th and I found it incredibly sad that so many Americans turned their back on what happened that day when voting. I respect that the…
