The Dreaded Rumble Strip

By Ennis

To the Editor:
Route 47 has been my home all 32 years of my life. My wife and I bought this home in Dennis Twp. because we envisioned raising our children and growing old together here. It took a lot of vision cause this home from 1880 was a dump.
Though it was not easy, we managed to achieve our goals with a lot of hard work and every dime we had to spare. Now blessed with our beautiful daughter and foster daughter who we are moving forward with adoption. We find ourselves fulfilling our dream that we have had since high school.
Though our love can never be broken, our quality of life diminished and our ability to live in our home is fading. Our house sits 30 feet from the dreaded rumble strip. To add insult to injury we are on a steep bend with a northbound passing lane. All day and all night we are plagued by loud ignorant blasts throughout our house. We are no longer able to hold onto our thoughts outside and we must brace ourselves every time we walk out are front door.
Our daughters wake up all hours of the night trembling and crying. This breaks my heart. My wife and I reached out to senator Jeff Van Drew’s office on several occasions. We explained that the bend is too sharp and a large majority of vehicles heading north are riding the yellow line, that’s a lot of vehicles and unfortunately a whole lot more come summer time. Van Drew’s reply was he submitted many petitions for a no passing zone and they have all been rejected.
I cannot believe you would move forward with this project with complete disregard for homes that sit this close to the road. There was no strip put in at intersections or in front of businesses so why would they be put through out residential communities?
No one in their right mind will buy this home now. The only option is to just walk away. It boggles my mind how our county roads are falling apart and Van Drew supports spending millions of dollars destroying our lives. Shame on you. You lost my vote!
