Letter Writer Misinterprets President Obama

By Makiver

To the Editor:
A letter writer in the June 24 Herald is misinterpreting what our president said. He dittoed Elizabeth Warren’s assertion, “You didn’t build that,” – a gender embarrassment if there ever was one. When Bill Gates, for example, dropped out of Harvard to tinker around in the family garage with his ideas, it was his ideas, his efforts, not his dad’s or mom’s, even though they may have paid for his car or gave him starter money.
Roger Penske is a billionaire who got his start from his wife’s father, Stouffer of Stouffer foods, but Roger’s ideas and elbow grease made him a billionaire. It’s just envy and sour grapes to believe a real success story must be ‘shared glory’ by people who never took risks, who built the nearby road, etc.
The letter writer knows no one and has heard of very few who were unable to keep their doctor. He needs to get out more. Two days after Obama was re-elected, my longtime primary care physician sent all his Medicare patients a letter saying because Obama took $700 billion out of the Medicare fund to put it into Obamacare for the benefit of younger people, he was no longer being reimbursed for seeing Medicare patients as he was. If we wanted to continue being one of his patients, we’d have to pay $413 quarterly, on top of our insurance payments, of course. My doctor is one of very many; others have just quietly retired. This is called “two-tier” medicine or “concierge care.” Pay a lot more or get another doctor! The Wall Street Journal predicts “three-tier” medicine on the horizon too. Obamacare was touted as preventing people from having to go bankrupt due to medical expenses; that was baloney too. When I had a sciatica attack last August, my new doctor wrote me an effective prescription and also recommended I see a chiropractor. Our hospital gave me its list of 25 area chiropractors and not one would accept Medicare. I paid out-of-pocket for five sessions, $80 each.
